So for World book day we decided to run a competition. The task was to come dressed as a character from one of our books and the winner got a free personalised copy of a book of their choice. The book had a picture of them with Bandit printed on the first page. We were so impressed we couldn't choose so we gave a book to everyone, as they had made such a wonderful effort. Our aim is to encourage and support reading and so in our eyes they were all winners. #worldbookday2025 #Bandito

A quick look back at #WorldBookDay2025, which was extremely special for me. Not only did I get to return to the lovely Carrant Brook Junior School, but I also got to let one of the pupils there know that I’d named my main character in WARNING: May Contain Dragons after her (a surprise her parents and teachers had been keeping secret for a while). I first met Willow during my initial visit to Carrant Brook a year earlier. After failing to get her hands on of a copy of my debut at the end of the day, she then visited a local bookshop where I was hosting an event. Her determination to track me down and pick up a signed copy reminded me somewhat of my main character in WARNING: May Contain Dragons, who is determined to rescue her brother from the clutches of a (maybe) dragon. Having just finished writing the manuscript for that book at the time, I’d been playing around with a few main character names, yet was struggling to decide which one to go with. So, the minute Willow explained her reason for attending my bookshop event, it was decision made! It was wonderful to witness her reaction when I made the announcement in front of her schoolfriends on World Book Day. And from what I hear from her parents, she’s rather chuffed about the whole thing!
