For any future creatives looking to dabble in xtramath horror, I've a wonderful setup for you. In the 4th grade me and my friends found a way to break the site and essentially generate as many correct checkmarks as we wanted. do something with that.

Almost completely agree with you on K-6. Is there any evidence on using computers as word processing tools in the middle and high school grades, after the kids have drafted on paper? Or on adaptive practice for math fact fluency (XtraMath etc.) for Gr. 3-4? I'm pretty anti-edtech, but those two use cases seem like possible exceptions where it could be valuable.

XtraMath, an app available on all smartphones, is the way to go. I used it with third graders ten years ago in St. Louis. But, I found that you must provide a small extrinsic reward for performance. The results were amazing … and lasting. Student confidence in math exceeded expectations.

For my middle school math classes, we start every period with a multiplication practice session on XtraMath (division if they have tested out of multiplication). Students are so limited in every area of math if they don’t know these facts.
