The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, on 2nd June 2026, received the Thomas Sankara Pan-African Selfless Leadership Award for Excellence from the Youth Partnership for Africa’s Development (YPAD).
Receiving the award in his office from a delegation led by the President of YPAD, Mr. Henry Nwankwo, the Executive Secretary expressed appreciation for the recognition and commended the organisation’s efforts in combating drug abuse among youths and promoting entrepreneurship through capacity-building initiatives.
He observed that many of Africa’s challenges are shared across the continent and emphasized that significant progress could be achieved if African youths unite around a common vision for development.
Presenting the award, Mr. Nwankwo stated that the honour was in recognition of the Executive Secretary’s outstanding contributions to education, national development, dedicated service, and exemplary leadership, which he described as worthy of emulation by young people.
The Executive Secretary dedicated the award to the NUC, the Nigerian University System, and the youth, noting that the recognition would inspire him to continue striving for greater excellence in service.
