Our first #BikeTO protected intersection is now operational.
A few minor signage changes & completion of the TTC Island to come, but the permanent signals & line markings are in place
Bioswale is also starting to do its thing.

demonstration projects are primarily about public engagement, qualitative not quantitative data collection. If interested in the latter, you are better off pursuing materials that last at least 6-12 months. 1-3 month tests struggle to accomplish the goals of a demo or true pilot.

The “missing middle” of #tacticalurbanism is the materials gap between one week and one month. You can power wash a lot of paint after 1-3 months but it requires accounting for and paying for the expense. A few tricks: one thin layer; don’t prime; and don’t seal.

Day 1 of @itecanada:
On a panel this morning with @altafieldnotes about RFPs then spent the afternoon walking around the Exchange Dstrct learning about the revitalization of the area & green infrastructure - and the challenges of doing this work in a winter climate #ITECARSP2023
ALT Drain into buried river below this laneway. Permeable pavers along this stretch.. but like all cities, maintenance needs to be kept up.
ALT Hell's Alley, a revitalized historic laneway with former factories turned into residential and railway tracks and ties used as TWSI
ALT Back in angle parking only! With a diagram on how to do it.
ALT Easier access hoist-able pavers and covers. Many trees lost to snow plows and vandalism. TWSI with contrasting brick pavers. (We use unigranite pavers in #BikeTO)

A few of our year-round #bike commuters took part in a #transportation #photo shoot organized by @lane_cog, @OregonDOT, and @altafieldnotes. Ironically, we used a PIVOT-designed @LaneTransit District Breeze bus shelter as home base.
