Well what a load of tosh. Have you seen the price of woodlands? Be it commercial Sitka, mixed broadleaf or just amenity woodland. If you are giving them away I’ll have one thanks.

Sagittaria latifolia (broadleaf arrowhead/wapato) provides substantial nutritional benefits through its tubers and has a long history of traditional medicinal applications documented by indigenous communities. The edible underground tubers, often called "duck potatoes," serve as an excellent, energy-dense survival food with a high-utility nutrient profile

I had a look at previous years with a late (maybe just normal these days) start using Pastures from Space. They span the full range of seasonal outcomes interestingly enough. I think our issues in 2026 will be broadleaf weeds, low(ish) pasture density and the current cold spell.

Planting Evergreen trees to shade them out works well because Evergreen‘s are shade tolerant when they’re young and then they grow taller and shade out the tree of heaven trees and aren’t as affected by the allelopathy. Also, Evergreen provide shade all year out. Whereas broadleaf trees can get out competed in the spring by tree of heaven.

I’m talking about this particular tree, not all invasive species. And triclopyr causes much less harm than Glyphosate, since it only affects on broadleaf/wood plants. I’ve got no problems with dandelions and other “weeds’. This tree is different.

I've seen a lot of comments regarding ant infestations in the city. Ant hills are more prone to appear in yards with broadleaf weeds such as dandelions, thistle and a few others. First you have to get rid of the weeds by the root, you can use a small garden hand scoop/shovel and dig them out one by one, pour a little table salt in each hole. As for the ants, you dig a 4" hole that is the size of the anthill plus a half; eg. anthill is 6" in diameter, so dig a hole 9" in diameter, then refill the hole with a mix of 60/40 soil and peat moss, then reseed the area and be sure to water it. However, if you have multiple anthills, the best solution is to dig up the entire front and/or front/back yard 5" deep and replace with 60/40 soil and peat moss mix and reseed or sod your your yard. It's the best way to permanently get rid of them. #Yeg #Lawn #Yard
