Opera just clarified: MV2 extensions like uBlock Origin are still supported and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. 🎉 But Google Chrome is permanently killing all MV2 bypasses starting with Chromium 150-151. 🔥 Microsoft Edge and Opera could eventually follow suit. What to do: Start researching MV3 alternatives now so you're not caught off guard later. 👀 #uBlockOrigin #Chrome #Opera #BrowserExtensions #MV2 ^P neowin.net/news/google-chrom…

If you're building a browser extension today, you might be tempted to stick with the classic popup. but for things like clipboard managers, the Sidepanel is a game-changer. Here’s why we chose it for our Encrypted Clipboard Manager and what we learned. 1. Persistence is UX Popups are transient. Click anywhere else, and poof - it's gone. If you're copying multiple items into a form, a Sidepanel stays open, keeping your flow uninterrupted. Lesson learned: For utility tools, UX beats "staying out of the way" if the tool is needed repeatedly. 2. Architecture: IndexedDB Blobs We use IndexedDB for local-first speed. Pro tip: Don't store large images/blobs in your main data store. We separated heavy data (images) into a dedicated store. It prevents UI lag when scanning through hundreds of text snippets. 3. "Zero-Knowledge" Security We see a lot of "sync" tools that are essentially plain-text in the cloud. We went the E2EE route. PBKDF2 (600k iterations) to derive keys from a master password. AES-256-GCM for the actual encryption. Key detail: Your password NEVER leaves your machine. Building in public means sharing the tradeoffs. Sidepanels take up screen real estate, but for productivity, they're the superior choice in Manifest V3. What are you building? Popup or Sidepanel? 👇 #BuildInPublic #BrowserExtensions #WebDev #CyberSecurity #nhrdev

Founder Park Picks #01 Do you ever feel a bit ADHD when using your browser? You open a tab to work. You check one thing. Then another. Then suddenly it’s YouTube, Reddit, Twitter… and 30 minutes are gone. This is what this plugin is built to stop. AI Brother – an AI-powered focus plugin for your browser. This plugin blocks distractions in a different way: It asks for your current goal (e.g. “write a proposal”, “prepare for interviews”, “read papers”). Then it uses AI to judge whether the page you’re visiting is relevant to that goal. Relevant → allowed Off-task → blocked (with a warning: “the cat is watching you”) So the same site can be: useful when you’re researching distracting when you’re procrastinating It’s basically “intent-based content blocking”, not rule-based blocking. You can find it by searching “AI Brother is watching you” in the Chrome Web Store. Do you think this is helpful — or just creepy? 😅 #AItools #Productivity #Focus #BrowserExtensions #FPPicks
