Identifying Individual Bears 🐾 | Can wound marks help identify Sloth Bears? 🐻 While chest marks have shown potential for identifying individual Sloth Bears under ex-situ conditions, researchers have also explored wound and scratch marks as another useful feature. A study by Gubbi et al. from Bannerghatta National Park showed that unique scars and scratch marks visible in camera-trap images helped identify 4 and 2 individual Sloth Bears in 2019 and 2020, respectively. These markings allowed researchers to recognize the same bear across different locations and better understand its movement and home range. Unlike chest marks, wound marks are often temporary and may change over time. However, when clearly visible, they can provide valuable clues for short-term identification in the wild. This highlights how even accidental body markings can contribute to understanding Sloth Bear ecology and movement patterns. #ProjectSlothBear #WIIProjectSlothBear #SlothBear #AnimalIdentification #BearEcology #CameraTrap #WildlifeResearch @moefcc @CentralIfs @NationalCAMPA @wii_india @SACONCoimbatore @wii_eiacp @rameshpandeyifs @GobindsagarBha1 @RuchiBadola2 @CRamesh_WII @BivashPand34733 @Kramesh95 @amitwii @UpmaManral @ashishjangid22 @avinashyadv95 @utkarsh41995 @kaushikforwild @Hairypotter0777 @Sindhoora_2001 @Suraj_Chauhan31 @niranjanKv2770 @Kavyak0204 @MitaliJadh34762 @ForNat0

Two brown bear siblings that look around 2 years old. They were probably separated from their mother this year. I believe this is the first time I've captured bear vocalizations on camera! #trailcam #cameratrap

📸 Ever wondered how we study wildlife without disturbing it? Camera traps are motion-sensor cameras placed in forests that automatically capture photos or videos when an animal passes by. 🐾 #CameraTrap #WildlifeMonitoring #Conservation #ForestDepartment #WildlifeResearch

Great #cameratrap shots of Arizona's state mammal (which is on our driver's licenses), the #ringtail, in the threatened Sky Islands region of the Galiuro Mountains. Wanted you to see action shots and gorgeous tail shots. Click to enlarge - esp. the last one!

Is this a pine marten? It appears much lighter in colour compared to what I am used to seeing? #cameratrap #trailcam #Transylvania #Romania
