Queensland snake catcher warns after python eats kitten
A Queensland snake catcher has warned pet owners to secure small animals overnight after a carpet python ate a family kitten in Norman Gardens, Rockhampton. Susan Wehmeier from Sue’s Reptile Rescue and Relocations CQ was called around 9:30am after the family found the snake had swallowed their kitten. She said the situation was heartbreaking, and the python was highly defensive because it was already full.
Wehmeier safely bagged the snake in about 10 minutes and relocated it to a nearby creek. She says pythons can be active at all hours and that small pets, cats, and poultry should be locked up at night. She also noted carpet pythons have been especially common around Yeppoon recently, including another call-out involving a python that ate a pet duck.
