Class35、見た目も設計もDD54っぽさを感じる 角型の車体や二枚窓、そして1基の大出力機関と対応変速機はかなり近い マイバッハ製機関のライセンス製造は航空機製造に長けたブリストルシドレー、三菱であったことも興味深い

Class30もClass35も中型ディーゼルと言う位置づけは近かったのだろう。そしてブラッシュ社のClass30はClass47に繋がったが、ベイヤーピーコックのClass35はその後が続けなかった(その後は他社設計の下請け)。Class35自体はピーコックの起死回生だったが

1960年代後期には液体式の追加発注が途絶えたのみならず、電気式を増やした一方で廃業しメーカー保証が得られないピーコックやノースブリティッシュ製の液体式について廃止が取り沙汰された。高出力機関1基で出来の良かったClass35ですらどうにもならず…

Class35は設計面では最適解だったのだが これ以上の最適解はあるのだろうか。ピーコック社の廃業とブリストル・シドレーのメンテナンス縮小さえなけければ。あとは西部管理局が液体式を維持する気力さえあれば

思えばベイヤーピーコックにとってClass35の大量注文は、海外市場が蒸機・ディーゼルともに期待が出来なくなった時期に良いタイミングで来たのだろう。大出力機関と変速機をそれぞれ1機という組み合わせも結果的に軽量化と信頼性を上げる事にもなったはずだ

ハイメックは実に素晴らしかったです ベイヤーピーコック主導で自社設計し、BRに売り込んだディーゼルはClass35のみでしたが、メーカー閉鎖による予備部品枯渇以外は問題は無かったようです。

#汽車のえほん_二次創作 拡張されたティドマス港へのコンテナ列車を取り扱うのはClass66が通常であるが、Class56や稀にではあるがClass60による牽引も行われている。最近の事例ではClass69の運用が確認され、ゴードンズ・ヒルでClass35を後補機とした編成が愛好家によって撮影されている
