A complete street is when everyone gets space. A typical street is when everyone gets a lane, except the person walking. #CompleteStreets #PedestrianSafety #UrbanDesign #TransportationEngineering #SafeStreets
Pedestrian deaths increased 72% just between 2009 and 2024, and more than 7,000 people are still dying each year. Read more in Dangerous by Design, including proven safety measures and a breakdown of pedestrian deaths by state and metro area. @SmartGrowthUSA & @completestreets
Our streets are still dangerous by design. That message is clear in the new edition of our signature report. 🚨 Dangerous by Design 2026 shows that pedestrian deaths are still at record highs, and most places are becoming more dangerous. Read the report: smartgrowthamerica.org/dange…

Reimagining Nallagandla Junction: A Small Intervention with a Massive Impact As Hyderabad continues to expand westward, mobility infrastructure must evolve to keep pace with growing travel demand. One of the most critical bottlenecks today is Nallagandla Junction, a strategic node connecting BHEL, Ramachandrapuram, Chandanagar, Nallagandla, Tellapur, and the Financial District. The existing T-junction, originally designed for much lower traffic volumes, is struggling to accommodate the explosive growth of residential and commercial developments in the surrounding areas. During peak hours, long queues, delays, conflict points, and forced detours have become a daily reality for thousands of commuters. At Imbyzmo Consulting, we believe there is a smarter and more cost-effective solution than waiting for congestion to worsen and eventually investing in an expensive flyover. Our Proposal: Transform the Junction into a Large One-Way Roundabout By strategically acquiring just 270 meters of land, the current intersection can be reconfigured into a high-capacity one-way roundabout system that significantly improves traffic circulation while enhancing safety and urban livability. Key Benefits of the Proposed Design ✅ Multifold Increase in Junction Capacity Continuous movement through a one-way roundabout reduces signal delays, minimizes stop-and-go traffic, and allows vehicles to move more efficiently through the intersection. ✅ Reduced Congestion & Travel Time The redesign eliminates many conflicting turning movements and unnecessary detours, creating smoother and more predictable traffic flow. ✅ Future-Proof Alternative to Costly Flyovers A well-designed at-grade solution can accommodate future traffic growth at a fraction of the cost, construction time, and visual impact of grade-separated infrastructure. ✅ Safer for Pedestrians Raised pedestrian crossings at key locations naturally calm traffic while providing safe and convenient crossing opportunities for residents. ✅ People-Centric Streetscape Wide footpaths ensure comfortable pedestrian movement and encourage walking for short local trips. ✅ Public Transport Priority Dedicated bus lanes and modern bus stops improve transit reliability and passenger experience, making public transport a more attractive option. ✅ Greener Urban Environment The design integrates lush avenue trees throughout the corridor, providing shade for both pedestrians and road users, reducing urban heat, and creating a more pleasant public realm. Building Smarter Cities Through Better Street Design Not every mobility challenge requires a flyover. Sometimes, thoughtful urban design, strategic land acquisition, and efficient traffic engineering can unlock significant improvements in capacity, safety, and quality of life. The proposed Nallagandla Junction redesign demonstrates how a relatively small intervention can transform one of Hyderabad's most important transportation nodes into a safer, greener, and more efficient gateway for the region. What are your thoughts on prioritizing intelligent at-grade solutions before resorting to costly grade-separated infrastructure? @TelanganaCMO @revanth_anumula @TelanganaCS @jayesh_ranjan @TelanganaDGP @SajjanarVC_IPS @SajjanarOffice @GummallaSrijana @HMDA_Gov @GHMCOnline @CommissionrGHMC @CYBTRAFFIC @CMC_Offcl @HYDTP @TelanganaFD @HMRLHydmetro @BicyclingClub #UrbanPlanning #TrafficEngineering #Mobility #Hyderabad #Nallagandla #RoadSafety #CompleteStreets #PublicTransport #SmartCities #Infrastructure #UrbanDesign #ImbyzmoConsulting #SustainableMobility #TransportPlanning #CityDevelopment

Question for my Nigerian folks: Which city should pilot this first? Lagos? Abuja? #CompleteStreets #SustainableMobility
Roads shouldn’t just be for cars. 🚘 Look at this breakdown. It fits sidewalks, bus rapid transit, vehicle lanes, and bike tracks into one smart design. Why do most cities still fail to plan for sustainable, multimodal transit? Is it just budget, or a lack of political will? 🧵 👇 #UrbanPlanning #SmartCities #Sustainability #Transit

Santana Row converted a street into a pedestrian plaza, then solved the cross-street problem with a raised intersection. It extends the walking surface, slows cars, and uses truncated domes for accessibility. Placemaking done right. #MrBarricade #CompleteStreets #SanJose

Castro Street in Mountain View is one of the first true Complete Streets in the U.S. Car lanes cut to one each way, angled parking, trench drains, then a COVID closure that became permanent. People-first design that saved a downtown. #MrBarricade #CompleteStreets #MountainView

🚶‍♂️ The Myth of the " Walkable City" vs. The Reality of the Broken Toe! Look at these images. This isn't a war zone; it’s a typical Monday on an Indian street. I’ve spent two decades walking, cycling, and advocating on these very roads. I have seen countless "signal-free" infrastructure promises come and go. Yet, as we mark the International Day of Walking, the reality remains: our cities are designed for metal boxes, not for humans. The Footpath: India’s Most "Mythical" Infrastructure- In India, a functional footpath is a rare sight. What we see instead are: •Death Traps: Broken slabs that turn a simple walk into an obstacle course. •Encroachment Hubs: Where pedestrians are pushed onto the main carriage way because the sidewalk is occupied cars and by everything except walkers. •Invisibility: A total lack of design detail. IRC guidelines exist, but on the ground, we get "shoulder concretization" that ignores the most basic human need—safety. #InternationalWalkingDay #pedestrianfirst @IFPedestrians @walkabilityasia @fietsprofessor @walkingproject @Raahgiri_Fdn @manashuman @bhaumikgowande @completestreets @StreetsblogUSA @rajeshkalra @thebetterindia @JeanTodt @BrentToderian

Decades of car-first planning have left our cities with traffic, pollution, and communities cut off from one another. But cities don’t have to be this way. By designing streets that put people first, we can create vibrant, healthy, and connected urban spaces. It’s time to shift gears toward #CompleteStreets - learn more 👉 itdp.org/multimedia/urban-hi…
