#EMDR #PTSD #ComplexPTSD Psikoterapi BilimselAraştırma MentalHealth #EMDREurope2026 #PSYTREC

Idk. The sustained trauma may very well lead to ComplexPTSD but the battlefields of old would have been filled with trauma anyway.

Narcissistic abuse does not just leave emotional scars. It changes your brain. And the research proves it. Here is what the science actually says. Dr Martin Teicher at Harvard University conducted neuroimaging studies on adults who experienced childhood emotional abuse and neglect. What he found was not subtle. The brains of adults who experienced sustained emotional abuse showed measurable differences in three critical areas. The hippocampus. The region responsible for memory and learning. Survivors of emotional abuse showed reduced hippocampal volume, which explains why so many struggle to hold onto clear memories of what happened to them. The gaslighting did not just confuse you. The abuse physically changed the part of your brain that stores memory. The prefrontal cortex. The region responsible for rational thought, decision making and emotional regulation. Chronic emotional threat reduces activity in this area. This is why, under stress, the thinking brain goes offline and the survival brain takes over. The amygdala. Your brain's alarm system. In survivors of sustained emotional abuse, the amygdala becomes hyperactive. It fires faster. It stays activated longer. It reads threat in situations where there is none. This is not anxiety. This is neurological adaptation to a genuinely dangerous environment. Dr Bessel van der Kolk spent decades documenting how trauma, including the sustained relational trauma of narcissistic abuse, does not live in the mind alone. It lives in the body. In the nervous system. In the way you flinch when someone raises their voice. In the way you freeze when someone goes quiet. In the way you brace for punishment before anything has even happened. Your body is not overreacting. It is remembering. And here is the part that changes everything. Neuroplasticity. The same research that documents the damage also documents the brain's capacity to heal. New neural pathways can be built. The hippocampus can recover volume. The amygdala can be recalibrated. The brain that was changed by what happened to you can be changed again by what happens next. Healing is not just possible. It is biological. I cover this and so much more in my book The Scapegoat Child. 350 pages of clinical research and lived experience. August 7th 2026. In Japan, serious bullying cases are often treated as isolated incidents. But many families feel something else happens afterward: silence, minimization, and institutional self-protection. My eldest daughter was officially recognized as a victim in a serious school bullying case. More than seven years later, she is still suffering from Complex PTSD. And yet, recently, she told me: “School was fun.” “I wanted to keep going there.” She had friends. She had happy memories. She did not reject education. What she lost was access to safe education. If there had been early intervention, specialists trained in bullying response, appropriate action toward the perpetrators, and environmental adjustments that allowed her to feel safe, her life might have been very different. My younger daughter struggled in another way. She needed a quieter and safer learning environment. Instead, she kept forcing herself to adapt to an overwhelming classroom setting until her mental and physical health collapsed. This is not simply about one school. It is about what happens when education systems are unable — or unwilling — to protect children with different needs. Children who thrive in school should absolutely be protected. But children who cannot safely survive in conventional school environments also deserve real educational options. These children are not refusing to learn. They are trying to survive. #Bullying #ComplexPTSD #inPay #SchoolRefusal #ChildrenRights #InclusiveEducation #MentalHealth

Fuck it. I'm in. This really is too good. WHO CARRIES THE BOATS. On that: my personal belief is that it's very handy (needed) in life to have an inner Goggins in your back pocket when needed (I'm needing it currently - long and complexPTSD story for another day, perhaps). Also: I happen to be 2 degrees separation from actual Goggins. After I'm back on my feet properly I'm confident we'll meet in person due to overlapping circles and interests. Who knows, I might even be able to introduce him to the Bronze army one day (he'd love it no doubt). How does recruitment work? 🫡🪽
