Manipur : PRESS STATEMENT
16th June, 2026
The Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO), Churachandpur, expresses serious concern over the reported attack by CRPF (COBRA) forces on Kuki Village Volunteers at Songkong Village under Henglep Sub-Division today. Such an incident is deeply unfortunate and raises grave concerns, particularly at a time when Kuki Village Volunteers are engaged in safeguarding their villages & communities from repeated threats and attacks amid the ongoing conflict.
The Kuki Village Volunteers have emerged as a community-based defensive force
necessitated by the prevailing security situation and the continued vulnerability of Kuki villages. Any action targeting those who are protecting civilian populations risks further aggravating tensions, eroding public trust, and undermining efforts toward peace, security, and stability.
KSO Churachandpur urges the concerned authorities to immediately establish the
facts surrounding the incident, ensure accountability where warranted & take all
necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
We also call upon all security agencies to exercise the highest degree of restraint,
professionalism, and sensitivity while operating in conflict-affected areas, with due regard for the safety and security of innocent civilians.
At this critical juncture, actions that deepen mistrust or contribute to the escalation of hostilities must be avoided. Sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, justice and the protection of all communities.
