EACL Explorer is up with real-time schema editing: explorer.eacl.dev/ EACL (Enterprise Access ControL) is my situated ReBAC authorization system designed to efficiently answer questions like: 1. "who can access this resource?" 2. "which resources can this subject access?" 3. "can <subject> do <permission> on <resource>?" 4. view or update the permission schema, and everything updates in real-time. I ported EACL to DataScript so that you can run the entire EACL authorization library locally in your browser and play with it. It's not as fast as Datomic Pro (because concurrency), but saves me money on DynamoDB. How to try EACL Explorer: 1. Click "Seed DB" to populate the client-side database. 2. While you wait, expand the Schema section to understand the permission graph. 3. Select a subject from the left column, e.g. "User 1" or "Super User (the Super User can see everything) 4. In the middle column, you'll see all the resources that subject can access, which you can expand recursively. 5. Expand servers, paginate as much as you like and select one of the server resources. 6. On the right, you'll see all the subjects that have the permission to `:view` or `:admin` that resource. Sub-millisecond response times. 7. Now, try editing the schema, e.g. remove the line `permission view = ...` under `definition server {...}` at the bottom and click Write Schema. Everything updates in real-time. The parser will prevent you from changing schema such that it orphans any relationships between subjects & resources. The Datomic Pro version is tested to scale to at least 1M resources with good performance,, but the goal for EACL is to handle 10M resources. This permission schema is a real-world test for a cloud-hosting environment that exercises many intermediate resources with the latest cursor-tree optimizations. EACL is based on SpiceDB, built in Clojure/Script and backed by Datomic/DataScript.

EACL v7 DataScript demo: I ported my ReBAC AuthZ library to DataScript with a real-time editable Spice schema, running fully in the client: - it costs about 1.1GB of RAM for 110k servers & intermediate users, accounts and VPCs, because we want to show a real-world, complex graph traversal demo - performance scaling is very similar to the EACL Datomic Pro module @ ~30ms-40ms per page when querying `eacl/lookup-resources`, but obviously there is a memory limit in the browser, which does not apply to Datomic Pro. - you can edit the Spice schema in real-time (click "Write Schema") and everything updates instantly. The main reason I ported EACL to @nikitonsky's DataScript is because I didn't want to pay for ingress/egress out of my Datomic Pro cluster just for demos so that you can test the exact same capabilities. This will soon become the main EACL website, and the next target for EACL is Datahike. The takeaway here is that EACL v7 is fast, even when ported from Datomic Pro to DataScript, running fully client-side – it just works, in real-time.

4 big yields today: 1. added EACL AuthZ to 0tx (I built EACL for 0tx, btw.) 2. EACL v7 landed in PR with yuge perf. (demo soon) 3. EACL supports DataScript now 4. added AuthN & AuthZ to 0tx 0tx is my state-of-the-art, ai-first, personal tax accounting ledger. It is best-in-class and has been in development for over 3 years. 0tx will be ready this month.

Make sure to attend the funeral after the launch of the new @shipclojure datom stack - replicant, datascript, datomic - the perfect combo to build SaaS products. Launch coming next week!
Boilerplates are dead.

The new Datomic/Replicant/Datascript stack for @shipclojure now has automatic CI/CD through kamal-deploy.org. It's awesome! You own your infrastructure, you can deploy to any server, whether Digital Ocean, Hetzner, or any other VM vendor. Stay tuned for the official launch! You get Dockerized zero-downtime deploys, automated directly from GitHub Actions! Nothing better to get you into flow-based development. The deployment contains: - Automatic Datomic Transactor Setup - Memcached for Datomic - PSQL DB used as Datomic storage - The app itself Note: The deploy took 7m 24 as it builds the frontend and backend, and the caching layer was busted as I made modifications to bb.edn in this particular example. With full caching, it can be as fast as 2-3 minutes to deploy a simple fix to the backend.

my own custom system My plugin extracts the current page and builds a datalog db (using datascript) that it pushes to my site which immediately updates. each page is a query-able db which is nice

React is a better example, I'd rather have a Classic React codebase from 2018 than a ClojureScript codebase from 2018. Both suck, but I suspect one of these is a lot cheaper to operate than the other. ClojureScript's true value prop is experimental UI architectures, but the painful thing about experiments is they mostly fail, all those datascript client architectures from 2016 all failed, there were some incremental improvements over React, but nothing revolutionary that outweighs the cost of swimming against the entire tech economy

DataScript seems popular for this (Logseq uses it, Roam iirc uses it) but support for larger-than-memory DBs is still fairly new not sure how extensive the predicate support is, but it'll run anywhere you have either a JS runtime or a JVM

the problem I generally observe with datascript is that quickly and accurately detecting rerendering is very hard when your state is a bag of tuples. usually end up having to denormalize to a tree structure for speed.

Datascript is more cumbersome to work with initially than having your frontend state in an atom BUT it makes you more disciplined about state.

It’s a data browser/inspector that is very straightforward to use. With the dependency loaded, you can then `inspect` anything. If it’s a reference the inspector will react. Perfect for your app state. It has special viewers for hiccup, datascript, and datomic, and you can extend it with viewers for any kind of data. By the maker of Replicant. It’s brand new, and a bit rough at the edges still. youtu.be/5AKvD3nGCYY?si=3tAT…
