# The story of Shaaran Lakshminarayanan [CEO of Multipli] Shaaran's journey began at the intersection of innovation and pure tech obsession. He was one of the early developers of Solidity, the language in which virtually all smart contracts in the cryptocurrency world are written. It was work on the foundation of the infrastructure that is now used by trillions of dollars worth of assets Back then (around 2017-2018), when he was a student at VIT - Vellore Institute of Technology in India, Shaaran already understood one key thing - technology and innovation go hand in hand He began to delve not only into blockchain, but also into machine learning, AI, and everything else related to the future. At VIT, he was not just a student - he was a core committee member of roboVITics, a robotics club Those same years were filled with hackathons. Shaaran constantly participated in competitions and constantly won. He was the winner of API World Hackathon, the largest API hackathon in the world But the most interesting thing was that these were his first contacts with the industry He worked as a machine learning facilitator at Google, and later this turned into deeper work with the ecosystem. He was a student partner at Hasura - it wasn't just a job contract, it was an immersion into how tech companies work from the inside ## The tech polymath era Shaaran's transition from student to professional was fairly rapid. He worked at Celebrify as CTO in 2019-2020, where he was involved in developing a platform for personal video shoutouts from celebrities The real breakthrough came when he realized that crypto trading needed a completely different approach. The main problem with decentralized exchanges was that they were complex, inconvenient, and not social. Shaaran decided to change that In 2020, he founded Krypto - it wasn't just another exchange, it was a crypto trading platform that tried to solve real problems for traders. Krypto was positioned as the first cryptocurrency-centric social media platform that improved the investment experience through insights from experts. Through Krypto, it was possible to make peer-to-peer crypto transfers with much greater security than on conventional DEX's / The company was recognized - he was a Forbes 30 Under 30 2020 nominee and InterCon Top 50 Tech Innovator Awardee During his years with Krypto, he regularly participated in hackathons as a mentor and speaker. He mentored eight teams for devfest18 at Google, and two of them won the best hardware implementation award In addition to Krypto, he also worked as a machine learning engineer at the IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology) and did freelance projects for companies such as Toshiba It was during these years that Shaaran became known as a polymath - a person who could simultaneously write code, understand business, and see where the market needed innovation. It was precisely this combination of skills that would allow him to create something truly great ## Institutional Crypto By 2021-2022, the crypto industry began to change. From a purely retail focus, it began to move towards institutional adoption. It was at this moment that the idea for tanX emerged tanX was an institutional DEX co-founded by Shaaran. While Krypto was about giving tools to retail traders, tanX was about giving tools to real players - institutions, funds, hedge funds. And the results were impressive tanX quickly became the leading institutional DEX in the world. Throughout its history, it has processed $2b in quarterly trading volume. The company supports a liquidity network of more than 25 institutions What is important to understand about tanX is that it was not just another exchange. It was infrastructure for an entire ecosystem. Institutions needed to: > Trade large volumes securely > Have reliable and fast execution > Be able to create complex trading strategies > Integrate with their own risk management systems tanX provided all of this. The company was funded and backed by serious investors. Even though tanX is no longer Shaaran's main focus, the tanX brand remains one of the most significant institutional DEXes in crypto Working on tanX taught Shaaran several important lessons > Institutional crypto needs different infrastructure than retail > Volume and user base are not the same as value creation ## Multipli In 2023-2024, he founded Multipli, an RWA yield protocol. Multipli is a platform that allows users to generate yield on assets that do not typically yield, such as Bitcoin, MATIC, tokenized gold, and stablecoins The results were impressive. In Aug 2025, the company announced the completion of a $5m funding round, bringing total funding to $21.5m. Backing from top-tier investors - Pantera Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Elevation Capital More importantly, the protocol reached $95m TVL in the first weeks after the mainnet launch. This shows that the market really needs what Shaaran is building What makes Shaaran unique is that it didn't just jump on the RWA trend. It built institutional infrastructure with tanX, understood how crypto trading works with Krypto, and is now applying all that knowledge in a completely new direction Its path was not linear - it was a series of calculated moves where each subsequent step was bigger than the previous one. From pure engineering (Solidity) to the application layer (Krypto) to infrastructure (tanX) to a new paradigm (Multipli) [ 🤍 ]
