The Verge claimed that this Dev .Events company is (was?) the parent company of DevTernity, as per The Verge. It would be good for this bad joke to be over. I thought the organizer said the DevTernity incident was a one-off mistake... clearly not? theverge.com/2023/11/28/2397…

Here are these conferences listed: dev.events/EU/javascript This is the site that was (is?) built by the same team that organized DevTernity. DevTernity was a real conference, just with several speakers AI generated, gone undetected for years: blog.pragmaticengineer.com/d…

Scam JavaScript conferences alert: The below conferences ("We love JS {City}" "Europe JS {City}") are 99.99% that they are scams and cheap money grab attempts. Listed on a website linked to DevTernity organizers (of course!) Do your due diligence if a conference exists! Sad.

The organisers of Devternity also promote this scam conference. Incredible!! Here is the “Dev .events” page that used to primarily promote Devternity. I would simply assume all conferences listed here could be fishy, going forward: dev.events/javascript

Disappointing to see another conference trying to scam people. This one listed real people (not AI-generated nonexistent speakers like Devternity): except those people will not be speaking at a conference. Do your research and avoid paying for fake conferences!
Watch out - We Love JS event is a SCAM! Imagine how surprised I was when @TheAlexLichter sent me a link to the event in Amsterdam that I never heard about that I am supposedly speaking at. The website looks super shady and seems like it's autogenerated but it sells (quite expensive) tickets through a legit website @eventbrite . There is more from the same organizer and all of it is definitely a scam. Please retweet for reach!

Costs I've paid speaking, monetary and otherwise: 1) Flight, hotel, ground transportation, and food 2) Time not spent serving other clients who do pay for my time, whether people or organizations 3) Lack of participation in revenue that may be generated by having my image, likeness, and/or reputation used for event marketing and promotion 4) Time not spent with my wife and children 5) Real loss of future revenue from other event organizers who find out I spoke for free or for cheap 6) Emotional investment from sharing 40 years worth of intimate life experiences with complete strangers 7) Time spent providing free, unpaid advice to attendees before and after a talk 8) Cost for new clothes so that I don't appear in recorded videos or photographs looking like I've fallen on hard times because I wore the same outfit at another event 9) Exposure to travel risks such as sickness, accidents, inclement weather, food poisoning etc. 10) Guilt from potentially lower quality product for attendees because I could not afford to spend the amount of prep time required for a talk I would otherwise give if I were compensated adequately 11) Risk to personal reputation from any controversy generated by the event itself if I'm affiliated (remember DevTernity?) I'm sure there are other things, but this is the list I could think of for now.

If true, its a reputation blow to women on X. Dont support it at all. Read about Devternity scandal and how it was perceived by other tech people, especially by women. fortune.com/2023/11/27/devte…
I found something creepy... Is Emma a catfish? Emma = Jerome?? 😱 If so, we were all catfished.

No way! Those were AI-generated women recycled from the DevTernity seminars. 😌

. @binance tricked women into talking about crypto with a perfume. So smart. What is next for women’s history month? A pink layer 2 just for women? Perhaps a dainty ledger for our dainty women’s hands to grasp. Maybe someone could rewrite the bitcoin white paper but on scented paper with a blueberry gel pen.

@ICooper Can I just take a moment to thank you again for making and giving this talk. Watched the DevTernity version several times but this one is my new favourite rendition: youtube.com/watch?v=IN9lftH0…

"Earlier this week, DevTernity - a prestigious, international tech conference based in Latvia - had created fake profiles of female speakers to create a more diversified panel." 🤦‍♀️
