Reminds me of the arc electronic calculators had in education. They went from being a “cheating device” to being a requirement for post-gradeschool math. We still need mathematicians, just not human calculators.
The subtly here is that we haven’t needed human “coders” as a valuable role in decades. Software Engineering is far more complex than that. You can’t hire a calculator to be a mathematician and you can’t hire an AI to be a Software Engineer.
