Iโ€™m not against Wayland, Iโ€™m in favor of choice, freedom. Wayland is unfinished, good at a regular desktop, really bad for anybody that needs more than the basic except for gaming, Wayland is good on that. The point is that x11 was left to die by IBM/Red Hat and its minions. Just to be sure that their product, Wayland, be the only option. Itโ€™s the same strategy as Systemd, that is going full vertical implementation on Linux, without space for openrc,s6, dinit and for compatibility sysinit.

I find systemd units so great, Dinit ones seems very limited.

have not used KaOS nor Dinit , heard of both however. very cool news. wise some distro's moving away from mainline sysd etc not in that all that is bad but seems we are putting alot of eggs in very few baskets the last few years.
KaOS is migrating to Dinit. Have you ever used it? itsfoss.com/news/kaos-first-โ€ฆ

OpenRC FTW. dinit seems to be a modern replacement for sysvinit for those who hate systemd but like its formats.

'dinit' is out (no C for me) - so runit wins by default [also future desire to run busybox, so it's the natural choice]

So I'm on Linux now, but obviously I cheated, because this is a SteamOS machine (pre-installed). Need to re-learn enough to be able to make responsible choices on a new install. First up what init system to do? {openrc, runit, s6, or dinit}.

KaOS Releases First Dinit-Based ISO, but It's Not Ditching Systemd Entirely devopschat.co/articles/kaos-โ€ฆ - The distro ditches systemd as the init system while keeping some key components around.
