In my first programming class at UW, they let us choose between Eclipse and DrJava, but warned us that Eclipse might be "too helpful." They made us code on paper in the first exam and almost everyone stopped using Eclipse immediately thereafter.
My worry is that an increasing reliance on LLMs could make CS students and programmers less capable over time. They may struggle to identify bugs generated by LLMs, leading to a gradual decline in code quality in the field. BOOM!
