I may or may not be obsessed with making my own thumbnails for Youtube. Do I like doing the editing? Hell no. #editing #editinghell #vtuber #streamer #twitchstreamer #art #chibi #cute #thumbnails #thumbnailart #youtube

I hate editing. By this stage I’m sick of the story, sick of every sentence—yet the final edits are what make it stronger. Painful work, but necessary. dlvr.it/TPVQP1 #MattBorne #EditingHell #AuthorLife #AmWriting #HardboiledWriter

The editing loop: read, tweak, repeat. And repeat. Editing is a special kind of marathon: reading the same words over and over, yet still finding things to improve. Exhausting. Taking a break today. The words will wait. #WritingLife #AmWriting #WriterLife #EditingHell #Author

Anyone else treat filler words like emotional support syllables? Just me? Cool. Cool. I don’t EVEN know why I do it. I JUST keep adding them. THEN I have to delete them. BUT do I learn? …no. THAT is crazy. It's like my brain thinks it’s punctuation. They’re like literary glitter. I sprinkle them everywhere and then curse their existence for eternity. ✨✍️ #EditingHell #FillerWordConfessional #ThatJustEvenThenForever #WriterProblems

Just had that moment: Sent a 7,000-word chapter to editors. They asked so many questions it ballooned to 14,000 words. Their response? "GREAT! Now cut 7,000 words and we're good." Academia, why you gotta be like that? 😩✂️ #AcademicWriting #EditingHell

In September I edited close to 40k words of scientific manuscripts and made... $700 💀 (which is more than I usually make for that amount of work tbh) I'm now unemployed bc again bc they reduced our pay even more & I refused to sign the new contract. #editinghell
This month I wrote 11,000 words across 8 reviews/features for four different publications and made $1,600 total.

They're fucking GAMIFYING OUR JOBS WHAT THE FRESH FUCK. YOU DON'T OFFER ENOUGH WORK TO DO THIS IN THE NON-MEDICAL FIELDS. #editinghell

It's super hilarious that this week's #editinghell newsletter was all about how "not to sound like AI" when making light edits. Not ONCE have I worked on a document that needed light editing (of 1000 jobs). And if your editors write like AI, YOU NEED BETTER EDITORS. #YIKES

Based on personal experience, I think instrument misidentification isn't confined to SEMs. I'd say 50-60% of my #editinghell jobs failed to identify instruments at all in their methods sections. Failure to mention QA/QC measures is also a huge problem.

I get paid LESS to hand edit science writing that's been run through (abysmal) AI grammar checking software. It's MORE work than editing raw text bc the AI fucks up literally anything technical. #editinghell #stopusingAIforsciencewriting

A translation client last year told me they wouldn’t be needing my services anymore, as they would be using chatgpt for translation going forward. Three months later they wrote me back to ask about my rates for « correcting AI output ». So that’s where we are…

No big recap of this year bc I really don't have anything productive to say about the level of suckage in 2023, but I will do some abbreviated #editinghell stats in a bit. (Spoiler, they're not good)

Did....did my #editinghell client just say that combusting natural gas doesn't harm the environment??? 😱 #WTF What in the fossil fuel propaganda is this horseshit?!?! How the hell do I say "UM, NO" nicely? #fml

Ah yes, nothing like a "we're questioning your expertise" email from the #editinghell company after they forced you to LITERALLY upload your PhD diploma to their black hole server in another country. I'm one of your best editors, you dingbats. 🤦‍♀️🥴💀

Well this is a first....#editinghell client is trying to get text from a ✨completely✨ different manuscript edited for free by inserting it into an existing job (totally different manuscript topic). Nice try, asshole. Saw right through your little scam.

Based on my clients' experiences with a wide variety of journals, I totally agree with this assessment. And reviewers tend be the cruelest ppl, even when their own writing is a word salad. There's something about glass houses and throwing stones there. #editinghell
