Flower 🍃: Original Cookies (Delvin Cookies) 🍪⛽️
Genetics 🧬: Thin Mint Cookies (OG Kush x Durban Poison)
Setup:
@ElementsPapers_ Phantom King Size Wide (Papers), Santa Cruz Shredder Three Piece Hemp (Grinder),
@rektipz (Tip), (Rolled By
@POLLOPLUGGIN)
Appearance 👀: The appearance was nice. It opened up to some visually appealing flower with a green color with heavy traces of a dark purple color going through it, with some nugs having more purple traces than others. The nugs were well trimmed and had a dense and compact look and feel to it. The nugs were also covered in trichomes giving the flower a nice frosty look, the flower also had a good amount of orange pistils spread out across the flower. When breaking up the flower into my grinder it was sticky to the touch, nothing crazy but when that's the case I always recommend using gloves unless you want your fingers covered in sticky trichomes, which I find annoying when rolling and just in general and it’s also much cleaner. After grinding, the flower had a nice fluffy consistency that was easy to roll instead of that dry powdery consistency you usually get from older or overly dry flower.
The packaging on this flower was really cool. It came in a glass jar with a sandblasted design with cookie style pattern all over it which gave it a unique and cool look. The lid of the jar had a sticker too with bloodshot cartoon eyes and blue background that said “always smoking some good shit” in a cool font. I didn't snag the whole jar and only got an eighth so i didnt keep the jar but the jar packaging is definitely one to keep for the collection for sure. 9.3/10
Aroma 👃: The aroma is nice and was decently loud when cracking open the jar. Instantly I get a light doughy smell with some sweet gassy nuttiness buried underneath along with deep rich chocolate like notes. It doesn’t come across like a sweet milk chocolate either, more like a darker rich chocolate smell. Once broken down in the grinder, the nose remained the same but became much more pronounced, bringing out more of that sweet gas alongside the light doughy smell while having those traces of deep chocolate coming out lightly. While I’ve seen some people compare the aroma to cookie dough or actual baked cookies, I personally didn’t really get that myself. To me, it had its own unique profile rather than smelling like actual cookies. I can definitely see leading some people toward that “cookies” comparison but to me it was its own aroma. 8.3/10
Taste 👅: The taste translated pretty similar to the nose, but it didn’t come across as flavorful as the aroma gave off. I was getting that same light earthy doughy sweetness with those sweet gas and subtle rich chocolate like notes, just in a much more subtle way. The flavor also lasted through most of the joint only fading towards the end where it became hot. The taste was nice, just not the most mouth coating or flavor packed smoke. 8.4/10
Burn/Smoothness 🧼: The burn on this one was solid from start to finish. It formed a nice resin ring shortly after lighting that held through the majority of the doink. The ash had a salt and pepper appearance with for the most part salt. As for smoothness it was great, the smoke stayed clean and easy on the lungs for most of the session before getting slightly harsh toward the end. 9.0/10
Effects 😄: The effects were nice overall but honestly didn’t hit me too hard while smoking the doink or even immediately after. If anything, the high slowly crept up over time and settled into more of a relaxing laid back effect that just made me want to kick back and chill. I enjoyed taking a walk with a small doink and just vibing out, but the potency wasn’t anything too crazy for me personally. I still found myself taking dabs after each joint or wanting to roll up another shortly after. 8.2/10
Overall 📝: This was some nice flower no doubt about that. The reason I grabbed this jar was because I kept seeing so many people say great things about it, and whenever that happens I always like to see for myself what the hype is about. I also never really got to experience the older school Cookies cuts that people always talk about, so I wanted to finally see what made them so loved over the years. With this cut constantly being talked about as one of the best Cookies cuts out there, I definitely had to give it a try for myself. On top of that, Cookies has never really been a strain I personally gravitated toward, so I was curious to compare this cut to the other Cookies I’ve had in the past and see how it stacked up.
Original Cookies (Delvin’s Cut) is cultivated by JB out in Vallejo using all organic soil under HPS lighting, hand watered only and harvested once the trichomes reach peak maturity. After harvest, the flower is hung and dried to his preference before being placed into bins for a 14 day cure, then carefully hand-trimmed, showing the amount of love, patience, and passion put into the process from start to finish. The cut itself was originally obtained by JB from Delvin (Cookie Monster 415) back in 2011, which is why it carries the name “Delvin’s Cut” and has remained in his care ever since. Delvin (Cookie Monster 415) sadly passed away but his legacy still lives on through this flower and it just shows the impact he made on the scene.
The flower checked pretty much every box overall with no real complaints. I do wish the flavor translated a little louder and more flavorful on the palate, but aside from that it was still really enjoyable smoke. The clean burn and smoothness throughout were definitely some of the standout qualities for me and made it a pleasant smoke from start to finish, only getting a little hot and harsh toward the very end.
I thought this jar was good smoke overall, but it just wasn’t anything too special for me personally. I’ve never really been the biggest Cookies fan, so it could simply come down to the strain not being for me, and that’s completely okay. I’m still glad I got to experience this cut though because it was undeniably quality flower, it just didn’t translate as flavorful as I was hoping for. I also saw some people say it smokes better out of a leaf, but I only smoke papers, so this was strictly my experience and I’m sure different consumption methods could change things up a bit. As you know this cut is around 15 years old with even older genetics behind it, and while today’s flower can have a louder and more mouthcoating terp profiles, smoking this really makes you appreciate how special this cut was for its time and why it still holds the reputation it does today. Huge shoutout to everyone involved with these Cookies, especially
@ismokeloud707, JB and KB, you can genuinely tell the care and passion put into this flower. 8.6/10
