🐴 Why I Switched Torin to a Bitless Bridle 🐴
One of the greatest lessons horses teach us is that there is rarely just one way to do things.
For a long time, putting a bridle on Torin involved a bit of negotiation. He wasn't a fan of taking the bit into his mouth and would often let me know exactly how he felt about it!
So I decided to listen.
After trying a bitless bridle, the change was remarkable.
✨ He relaxed.
✨ Bridling became easy.
✨ He became more willing and comfortable.
✨ Our communication actually improved.
What surprised me most was that it wasn't just Torin who had to learn something new...
I did too.
Without relying on the bit, I had to improve my:
🐴 seat aids
🐴 leg aids
🐴 timing
🐴 balance
🐴 body awareness
In many ways, Torin became a better teacher.
The bitless bridle didn't magically solve everything, and it's not the right choice for every horse, rider, or discipline. But for Torin, it has been a wonderful fit.
It reminded me that good horsemanship isn't about forcing a horse into our preferred system.
It's about listening.
Sometimes our horses are quietly telling us exactly what they need.
When we take the time to hear them, incredible things can happen.
🤍 The goal is never less control.
The goal is better communication.
And sometimes that begins with asking:
"What is my horse trying to tell me?"
