Arm Added: Mason Cates Mason Cates joins the Spinners from Catawba Valley Community College, bringing a 6’3”, 205-pound right-handed frame to the Sanford pitching staff. The Efland, North Carolina native appeared in 9 games for CVCC, striking out 9 over 11.1 innings while holding opponents to a .244 batting average. That combination of size, college innings, and strike-throwing experience gives Sanford another developing arm to watch this summer. Power Added to the Lineup: Levi Baker Levi Baker brings a strong corner-infield profile to Sanford after competing at Catawba Valley Community College. The Fuquay-Varina native is listed as a first baseman/third baseman and produced a .462 on-base percentage in limited action, showing patience and the ability to reach base while continuing to develop as a run-producing bat. At 5’11”, 205 pounds, Baker gives the Spinners another physical right-handed hitter with upside in the lineup. The Sanford Spinners will open their 2026 season at home on June 5, with Opening Night presented by Cornerstone K9, setting the stage for an exciting start to the summer at the ballpark. Following the recent announcement of Cornerstone K9’s return as the team’s Official Uniform Sponsor, this partnership will take center stage on Opening Night. Cornerstone K9 will have a strong presence throughout the ballpark, bringing trainers, dogs, and interactive elements that reflect their deep connection to the Spinners organization and the Sanford community. The night will also mark the highly anticipated debut of Mickey the Bat Dog, who is set to carry on the tradition of in game entertainment that fans have come to love. Mickey steps into a big role, but one that has become a signature part of the Spinners experience. As Mickey makes his debut, the organization also recognizes and thanks Murphy the Bat Dog for his impact over the past seasons. Murphy quickly became a fan favorite, delivering memorable moments and helping create a unique ballpark atmosphere. His recent call up to perform on a larger stage to the MILB with the Winston-Salem Dash is a testament to his talent, and the Spinners wish him continued success in this next chapter. Rumor is, Murphy the Bat Dog, might make an appearance or two this season, to show his buddy Mickey how its done! Opening Night is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events of the season, combining high level collegiate baseball with fan focused entertainment and strong community partnerships. Sanford Spinners Announce New Home Field for 2026 Season The Sanford Spinners Baseball Club will officially move its home games to Lee County High School beginning with the 2026 summer season. As part of the transition, the Spinners will invest in the facility by funding new backstop netting, batting cage netting, and pitching tunnel netting, enhancing safety and functionality for both the Lee County High School Yellow Jackets and the broader baseball community. The organization is also exploring advanced automated camera technology at the field, which could support player development, scouting, and expanded viewing access for games. The Spinners extend their sincere thanks to Lee County Parks & Recreation, Director Joseph Keel, Southern Lee High School Baseball, and Coach Tommy Harrington for their partnership and support since the team’s launch in 2020 at Tramway Park and Southern Lee High School. The Spinners’ collegiate wooden bat home opener, presented by Cornerstone K9, is set for June 5th. 2026 sponsorship opportunities are now available.
