Additionally, Noah Petersen was arrested twice at Newton city council meetings for criticizing the police department during public comments. Petersen sued the City of Newton as well as Mayor Michael Hansen and Police Chief Rob Burdess, both in their official and individual capacities. A federal judge granted summary judgement on liability in favor of Peterson. Next step: Jury trial to decide damages. The City has an appeal pending last time I checked.
