End-of-Spring Flowers: Lilies (Lilium spp. and hyb.)…GrownByYou    While it's true that many of the more than 100 species and thousands of hybrid lilies bloom throughout the gardening season, many of the top picks bloom as spring transitions to summer.🌿    Most are planted in spring in cold-winter climates, though hardy lily bulbs are adaptable in milder regions, and they may naturalize or be lifted, divided, and planted in both autumn and spring.🌿    The dividing line is your @USDA zone: Lilies are mostly ground-hardy plants in zones 6–10. In zones 3–5, lift them in autumn and store indoors over winter for spring replanting.🌿    You'll find an overview of the Lily Family (Liliaceae) at this "Lily" link, along with references to 14 all-time favorite lily species grown by home gardeners: 🔗grownbyyou.com/bulbs/lily/ GrownByYou: Know Before You Grow.℠ #bulbs #flowerbulbs #bulbousplants #lily #lilies #Lilium #landscaping #flowers #plantingideas #gardenideas #GardeningX

Mixed Bulb & Perennial Flower Plantings…GrownByYou    Spring bulbs are so beautiful that few can resist planting them for their attractive display. Within a month, though, the beds are bare. Time to do something about that.🌿    You have two choices: Plant spring- and summer-blooming, hardy bulbs in the same bed, or mix bulbs with hardy perennial flowers. Both produce beds with a near-continual bloom to enjoy.🌿    In our example, daffodils, hyacinths, and other spring bulbs are interplanted with perennial Asters and Chrysanthemums.🌿    The bulbs bloom only in spring, but the perennials bloom twice, once in late spring, again in autumn.🌿    Plan your beds to enjoy through the seasons, with our expert's demonstration, at "Mixing Bulbs with Other Plants": 🔗grownbyyou.com/growing-flowe… GrownByYou: We Show You How.℠ #bulbousplants #flowerbulbs #plantingbulbs #plantingideas #gardenideas #flowergarden #homeandgarden #flowerbeds

Wait to Remove These Faded Flowers from Your Bulbs…GrownByYou    Many mistakenly cut off the faded flower stalks of bulbs after bloom ends to neaten their beds. This interrupts the important work their bulbs are doing and weakens their ability to bloom next season.🌿    Bulbs forming seed pods at the swollen ovaries of fertilized flowers should be left in place until their foliage dies back, a sign of entering dormancy.🌿 Infertile spent flowers may be cut safely and removed, but leave foliage and the fertile flower stems in place until they wither and die.🌿    Setting seed triggers pre-dormancy hormones in the bulbs to begin the bulb's storing of nutrients for next year's growth cycle.🌿    If you wish, harvest ripe seed pods when the surrounding foliage dies. Dry them and remove their seeds to propagate new hybridized plants. They will grow after planting and germination, producing their first flowers in four to five seasons.🌿    More, at this link: 🔗grownbyyou.com/growing-flowe… GrownByYou: Know Before You Grow.℠ #bulbousplants #flowerbulbs #bulbcare #propagatingbulbs #flowerbulbseed #liftingbulbs #GardeningX
