As a sanctuary for systemic thinking and collective learning, this cozy corner has become essential to our neighborhood. Our incredible volunteers have spent countless hours building a curated book collection on social and economic futures, hosting library hours for the public, and a plethora of community events that facilitate connecting with like-minded people passionate about community-based alternatives. But here's the thing—freespaces aren't actually “free” to maintain. The Reading Room relies on our collective support to continue providing this liberatory space where we can experience what commons-based care feels like in practice.

Hi all, I need to raise 12K to keep the reading room open. Otherwise we will be closing our lease in the next 30 days. This space is a beautiful community space, one of the very few freespaces available to us. There are so many incredible volunteers hosting events (music jams, socratic society, organiser meet ups, as well as public reading hours). The best and most dedicated volunteers are taking care of the place and the public that frequent the space, it would be so sad to close, but here we are.
