On today's episode of
@ATPinsights we discussed how
@Shopee has cut jobs in Singapore as parent company Sea pushes harder into AI.
Apparently, most of the impact was in product and engineering, including software engineers and quality assurance roles. Shopee has not said exactly how many Singapore-based employees were affected.
SEA (the parent company of Shopee) is not in financial trouble. In Q1 2026, it reported US$7.1 billion in revenue, up 46.6% year on year, and US$438.2 million in net income.
Shopee also had a record quarter, with US$37.3 billion in GMV, up 30.2%, and 4.0 billion gross orders, up 29.3%. But costs are rising quickly too, especially logistics, marketing, and platform investment.
