The adoption of the IMO MASS Code significantly changes the primary considerations for autonomous vessel programs. Autonomous systems govern vessel operations. However, the MASS Code, SOLAS, and classification societies now emphasize maintaining a safe state in scenarios where the control plane is jammed, spoofed, or malfunctioning. Software stop commands, which operate within the same trust domain as the systems they control, may fail during critical incidents. FARADEX provides a hardware-based solution that operates independently of the primary autonomy system. A certified mandatory series interrupter is certified on the propulsion power path and controlled by host-independent logic. Propulsion authority is continuously validated via an acoustic out-of-band channel that remains functional during network failures. Anti-bypass monitoring includes return-path and multi-source re-energization detection. Upon loss of authority, the propulsion energy path disconnects within 1.2 milliseconds. Each incident is documented with tamper-evident evidence on residual power, providing objective proof for class society verification. While the autonomy system directs fleet operations, FARADEX manages the underlying energy path. This methodology shifts autonomous vessels from exclusive dependence on software-based safety to the integration of hardware-based assurance.
