Sweet Home, Oregon – Unidentified Jane Doe (1976)
On July 24, 1976, a moss hunter discovered the partial skeletal remains of a young woman off Oregon State Hwy 20, near Swamp Mountain Road in Sweet Home, Oregon. Investigators believe she died sometime between 1966 and 1976. Nearly 50 years later, she is still without a name.
What we know:
•Age: 18–40 years old
•Height: 4′11″–5′1″
•Race: White and possibly Indigenous American
•Hair/Eyes: Brown hair, brown eyes
•Distinguishing item: Black & white seed bead strip featuring two birds and diamond patterns, possibly attached to a leather strip
•Clothing & items found: Fringed leather coat, Levi blue jeans (29″ inseam), platform sandal with unique white strap and basket weave detail, yellow/tan leather strip with metal rings
•Medical: Healed fracture of the right nasal bone
•Dental records and DNA sample available
This case is sometimes linked to the “Ghosts of Highway 20” investigation, and her identity remains one of Oregon’s longest-running mysteries.
