ArgoCD vs. FluxCD: How do they handle access control and restrict deployments? Andrei Kvapil breaks down the GitOps landscape to help you choose the right tool for your cluster. Watch the breakdown here. #GitOps #ArgoCD #FluxCD #DevOps #Kubernetes #TechTips

What if you could create a database the same way you create a Deployment? That's Crossplane. Terraform is great. But it lives outside Kubernetes. Your app manifests are in Git, applied by Argo or Flux. Your infra manifests are applied by Terraform Cloud or a CI job. Two separate worlds, two separate workflows. Crossplane brings cloud infrastructure INTO Kubernetes. You install Crossplane a provider (AWS, GCP, Azure). Now your cluster can create and manage cloud resources as Kubernetes objects. kubectl apply -f that. Crossplane provisions the RDS instance. kubectl get instance shows you its status. kubectl delete removes it. Your entire stack — app infra — in one GitOps flow.

93% of teams have adopted GitOps. Most are still getting paged at 2 AM. The tooling isn't the problem. Here are the 5 operational mistakes nobody talks about 👇

Tooling is just the amplifier if your operational discipline is noisy, GitOps just automates the chaos at a faster velocity.

GitOps without ops maturity = same 2AM pages

GitOps isn't a tool. It's a contract. Your Git repo = desired state Your cluster = the implementation Flux = what keeps them in sync

I deleted a Kubernetes resource by accident. Flux restored it before I could fix it myself. That's GitOps. Here's how it actually works 🧵

Just built a full production-grade GitOps pipeline from scratch. Terraform, Kubernetes, ArgoCD Push to GitHub, the cluster reconfigures itself. No kubectl. - Terraform spins up a full K8s cluster with an ingress controller from a single command - ArgoCD watches the GitHub repo and auto-syncs every push to the cluster - HPA auto-scales pods under CPU load - RBAC, Ingress, PersistentVolumes - Manually change reverted in seconds - One command to nuke everything. One to bring it back in 2 minutes. github.com/hari495/gitops?v=…

If I were starting on AWS today, I would do this as a beginner using the 12 Month Free Tier to stay within AWS Free Tier limits and avoid billing shocks. 1) 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 12 month Free Tier includes: - 750 hours/month of t2.micro or t3.micro - 5 GB S3 storage - 750 hours of RDS db.t2.micro so on… 2) 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 1 - Go to Billing → Budgets → Create Budget - Set an alert at $1 or $5 to stay notified early 3) 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗿 - Use filters by service or region - Spot growing usage before it crosses Free Tier limits 4) 𝗧𝗮𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 Use tags like FreeTierTest or CleanupLater, makes cleanup easier and usage visible 5) 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗽 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 Even stopped resources can be billed: - EC2 stopped = OK - EBS volumes = Charged until deleted - RDS = Charged for storage even if paused so on., 6) 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 - Use IAM to allow only Free Tier services - Block things like NAT Gateway and large EC2 types If you're starting today, save this list. An hour setup can save you from a five figure mistake. 49K read my DevOps and Cloud newsletter: techopsexamples.com/subscrib… What do we cover: DevOps, Cloud, Kubernetes, IaC, GitOps, MLOps 🔁 Consider a Repost if this is helpful
