Our police and justice system should be better resourced and more focused on catching dangerous criminals rather than concentrating so heavily on motorists, social media comments and other low-hanging fruit. However, that reality does not negate the fact that a proportion of both legal and illegal immigrants are contributing to rising crime in the UK. I also believe that the true scale of the issue is difficult to assess because official statistics do not always provide sufficient transparency regarding offenders' nationality, immigration status or ethnic background, with broad classifications such as "British" potentially obscuring important distinctions. Public trust is now at an all-time low. A series of recent high-profile stabbings, rapes and violent assaults involving foreign nationals has further eroded confidence in the government's lack of action some would say lack of ability to control our borders and protect the public. Regardless of the proportion of offenders involved, each case reinforces the perception that preventable crimes are being committed by individuals who, in many cases, should never have been in the country in the first place or should have been removed long before they offended. In my view, if we are serious about restoring public confidence and improving public safety, we must first put our own house in order. That means: 1. Stopping or significantly reducing new arrivals until the current situation is under control. 2. Removing all foreign nationals who commit any crimes in the United Kingdom, including those on the UK watch list for links to Islamic terrorism to their paternal homeland (wither they are 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation immigrants). 3. Deporting those who have entered the country illegally and who have demonstrated malicious intent by knowingly bypassing lawful immigration routes. 4. Correcting the 2tier justice that has resulted in positive discrimination clearly witnessed with cases where a rapist gets a lower sentence that an individual who posted on social media. None of this means ignoring Britain's home-grown criminals or pretending that immigration is the sole cause of crime. It means recognising that importing additional criminality, however small a minority may be responsible, is a policy failure that places unnecessary pressure on communities, policing and public services. A government's first duty is to protect its own citizens, uphold the rule of law and maintain public confidence in the security of the nation, these also means not implementing policies that have seen some rather questionable sentencing guildlines issued in the past few years.
