UPGRADE IN THE VEHICLE FORENSICS ROUTE RECONSTRUCTION TOOL
I shared the first version of the tool with friends in law enforcements and colleagues in the digital forensics community to test and provide feedback. Since then, the platform has undergone major upgrades, with significant new features, enhanced capabilities, and improvements designed to make investigations and forensic analysis even more efficient and effective.
1. Case Report Generator
A new "Case Report" panel in the sidebar appears once a route is plotted. Clicking "Generate & Print Report" opens a standalone, HIVE CONSULT-branded report in a new tab, ready to print or save as PDF.
It includes:
a. Route summary (total points, max/avg speed, distance, duration, event count)
b. The speed profile graph as an embedded image
c. The speed classification legend (Normal/Elevated/High/Critical)
d. The full event log table (time, status, location, speed, coordinates)
e. A table of landmarks/POIs found near the route
f. A signature/sign-off block
2. Editable Case Metadata
Three input fields sit above the report button:
Case Reference / Number: overrides the auto-detected filename-based case ID in the report's header and footer
Investigator (Prepared By): prints above the signature line
Reviewed By : same, optional
3. Playback Cursor: Vehicle Icon
During route playback, the moving cursor is now a small car icon instead of a plain pulsing dot. It rotates to face the actual direction of travel, is color-coded by current speed (matching the route's speed scale), and has a radar-style pulse ring for visibility at any zoom level.
