Police arrest Tiktoker who raised false alarm of students abduction in Edo
The Edo State Police Command have arrested arrested a Tiktoker identified as Uzebor Emmanuel aka Aza Woman, the false and misleading report of an alleged k!dnapping of students at Green Park Academy Aduwawa and Western Boys’ College Ikpoba Hill, Benin City on June 3,
Confirming her arrest to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect knowingly disseminated false claims in various social media posts alleging that about 6 persons had been k!dnapped through various Mini transport Buses. Ikoedem mentioned that the suspect claimed some of the victims purportedly escaped from their abductors, while others paid ransome.
The police imagemaker said the publications from ‘Aza Woman’ generated widespread apprehension, heightened public anx!ety, and could undermine public confidence in the security architecture of the State.
She stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Ikoedem advised members of the public to exercise restraint, verify information from credible sources before sharing, and refrain from using social media platforms to disseminate falsehoods capable of disturbing public peace and order.
