The actual content of the experience is altered because the interactivity is the content. It would be more like saying you're a fan of the book after reading a plot synopsis.

You experience the same content reading a book as you do listening to it. On the other hand, the whole point of gaming as a medium is the interactive elements. Watching lets plays fundamentally changes the experience as it robs you of any interactivity

How are you getting most of the experience if you aren't doing the one thing that seperates games from movies and tv: Interactivity. I watched the whole gameplay of TLOU in 2020 but I have never pretended that I know the game now. Not until last year when I finally played it.
man people who are "anti" watching playthroughs of games are so stupid cause how do you think this comparable at all ๐Ÿ˜ญ watching a longplay of a game is the equivalent of listening to an audiobook is it the exact same? no, but you're still getting most of the experience

FIRST LOOK at the new #3D environment for the #POLYGIRL real-time demo, coming later this summer. Additional animation and interactivity in the works.

The word poser has existed for generations to distinguish between those who have the effort/incentive/investment to engage firsthand and those who act as if they do. To devalue the medium's defining characteristic of interactivity as not worth your time is nothing but contempt.

Also im not sure if you know this but the story of a game is only secondary. The primary focus is the gameplay which encompasses many areas: type, execution, differentiating approaches, scale of interactivity, progression, ... Basing a games quality solely on the story is dumb af

the whole point of the medium is the added interactivity, just watch the anime version if you're really too lazy to do a quick Google search

If you want a VN that has been praised immensely for its interactivity recently, I'd recommend slay the princess. Its a great game for this talking point, ending is personalised based on 5 routes you do, an experience that's unattainable just watching.

finally... somebody has done a full route map for slay the princess, inclusive of the pristine cut... thank you, tumblr user ozcall, for your noble sacrifice...

You can say but you can't give opinion on everything that concerns gameplay and interactivity. I personally don't consider you a lesser fan for this, but you can't expect people to listen to your opinions of anything outside story and characters

There's multiple ways to enjoy art but only one way to interact with it. Interactivity isn't the same as enjoyment

I genuinely think if your "movie game" doesn't take advantage of either the ability to pause and come back later for a substantially longer run time or interactivity for a better experience you need to think about what being a video game is providing here

interactivity works hand in hand with the traditional "art" parts and results in creating cohesive all-around emotion & expression. you can watch the first minute at 2x speed and get the idea

Exactly, idk how but even like for Detroit become human the exp I had watching it and playing at my friendโ€™s back then was surprisingly different. Like even basic interactivity kinda influences the way you perceive things

LARP is stupid, someone can be very knowledgable but not have played a given game, but they are likely to still be lacking in expertise on the more subtle aspects of gamefeel/interactivity. There's different kinds of info and watching provides one kind.

Bro itโ€™s a fucking GAME, you have to PLAY it. If you think the INTERACTIVITY of a GAME is optional then you have fundamentally misunderstood what actually makes games art
i do not understand the YOU HAVE TO PHYSICALLY PLAY A GAME TO UNDERSTAND IT THATS THE ONLY WAY discussion. Like dude i think it depends

1. Larping means LIVE ACTION ROLE PLAY. 2. This is just false. Many games are heavily driven by the story and most times the gameplay is an afterthought instead. 3. I agree that a game should have SOME degree of gameplay and interactivity, but that's never all it is.

This discourse makes a lot more sense when you realize that people donโ€™t actually view gameplay in and of itself as art. Itโ€™s only supplementary material to the story and visuals. The interactivity of the interactive medium is merely a backdrop.

Its not rare at all. Youโ€™re confusing the plot with the story. Every game has gameplay intertwined with the story. The plot is the summary of events that happen while the story is the entire journey that takes you from beginning to end. Player interactivity is key for the journey

Gaming is notoriously innaccesible in a way that movies and music aren't, gaming is also so reliable in its interactivity that is borderline incomplete without it. Implying thay gaming doesnt require interactivity to be appreciated is showing contempt for the medium, but

provide some examples of the story games you are thinking about? even the most narrative-based games still have choices you have to make as the player, which is interactivity
