Day 2: The young women reflected on the shifts they’re seeing in their communities as a result of their advocacy - from challenging resistance to using innovative tools and inclusive engagement to expand iSRHR advocacy.
They also raised critical concerns about the limited involvement of young people in county-level policy processes and called for greater inclusion and accountability.
Their commitment is clear: to keep championing the rights of young people, continue their advocacy with an intersectional lens, and call for more meaningful youth engagement in decision-making spaces.

Day 1: Young Women Leading Change
The young women reflected on how the intersectional SRHR training has transformed their approach to community advocacy.
“Understanding intersectionality taught me not to generalize people’s experiences. Now, I see each person as unique and treat them that way.”
Since the training, they’ve been putting their knowledge into action:
✔️ Using participatory approaches to educate the community on SRHR.
✔️ Engaging in community barazas and international days to spark dialogue.
✔️ Advocating for youth-friendly services in Kakamega and Vihiga Counties.
✔️ Integrating intersectional SRHR into their everyday work.
✔️ Involving churches, parents, and teachers in SRHR conversations.
Their efforts are shifting attitudes, opening up dialogue, and creating a lasting impact in their communities.

On July 3rd and 4th, we brought together 18 young women from Vihiga and Kakamega Counties for a powerful two-day reflection.
Together, we looked back on our journey since the intersectional SRHR training began in 2022, highlighting the progress made, the impact achieved, and the lessons learnt through community advocacy and education led by the young women.
This close-out session provided an opportunity to reflect, learn from one another, and strengthen the foundation for lasting impact and youth-led change in our communities.
Stay tuned as we share key insights and takeaways from the sessions.

Our identities are not singular. Intersectionality shows how race, gender, class, sexuality, and more overlap to create unique experiences of privilege and oppression. Ignoring these intersections leads to incomplete solutions.

🌟 This Black History Month, we’re honoring Black disabled advocates!
We’ll spotlight leaders like Imani Barbarin, Shelby Lynch, and Keith Jones, who are breaking barriers and showing why intersectionality matters in advocacy.
Join us all month as we celebrate and fight for a world where disability rights are human rights.

This interaction isn’t unique. It reflects the broader systemic silencing of Black women, especially when we speak critically about race, gender, and disability in spaces dominated by whiteness. #BlackWomenTruths#IntersectionalityMatters

Time to reimagine a world where womxn thrive beyond oppressive systems and structures.
As we open up on Day 3, we’re confronting not only patriarchy but capitalism and other oppressive systems that keep African womxn marginalized.
🛑💭 Capitalism, in its essence, exploits labor and perpetuates economic inequality disproportionately affecting womxn by reinforcing poverty, limiting access to healthcare, and undervaluing women in these spaces. 🌍💸

The laws are in place, but where’s the implementation?
Time to push harder and question the status quo! 💥
