TROOPS BUSTS INTERSTATE ARMS RING, ARRESTS DISMISSED POLICE PERSONNEL IN PLATEAU Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have recorded a major operational success with the arrest of a suspected high-profile arms trafficker linked to an interstate illegal weapons network. The breakthrough followed credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms across state lines. Acting swiftly, troops of Sector 6, in collaboration with Headquarters Operation ENDURING PEACE, executed a coordinated intelligence-led operation on Sunday, 14 June 2026. The suspect, travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South towards the Makera axis in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, was identified, placed under surveillance and intercepted at a military checkpoint in Makera. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray and a jack knife. Other items found in his possession include two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff tag, photographs of the suspect in police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card and cash amounting to N73,300. Preliminary findings identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, formerly of Nigeria Police Force Base 7, Abuja, who had been dismissed from service. Further intelligence indicates that the suspect is a key figure in an interstate arms trafficking syndicate, allegedly supplying weapons to criminal elements involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes. He is currently in the custody of the troops where further interrogation is ongoing to uncover his network, including associates, financiers and supply channels. His arrest marks a significant disruption of illegal arms trafficking networks and underscores the effectiveness of ongoing intelligence-driven military operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illicit weapons. The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains committed to safeguarding lives and property while sustaining offensive operations against all threats to national security. The public is urged to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace.

The interstate highway system has some puzzling gaps (no Vegas to Phoenix route for example) this is a well thought out system that would work well for high speed rail as well. Many of the interstates were built along old rail rights of way so it would be fitting to upgrade them.

> be the United States > undisputed "Empire of Roads" since the 1950s Eisenhower Interstate System > global economic hegemony built on asphalt fast forward to today > get casually dethroned by a nation one-third your size > be India > 6.7 million kilometres of roads > now the largest road network on the planet > but length is only half the story > look at the geographical context > India is roughly 1/3rd the landmass of the US or China > yet our road density is 204 km per 100 sq km US is at 67. China is at 57 > we are on course to achieve total geographic and market saturation > Critics usually cope by crying "but Indian roads are unpaved dirt tracks!" > India has officially surpassed the US in total PAVED > road length too (4.5M km vs 4.3M km) > China is only slightly ahead, and with India adding 10,000 kms a year (a Tokyo to London stretch annually), that gap is closing violently fast > how did a notoriously slow bureaucracy pull this off? > A synchronised, dual-engine policy execution > Bharatmala & PM Gati Shakti - building the high-speed arterial expressways to crash corporate logistics costs and speed up freight > PMGSY - building the rural capillaries, integrating 600,000 remote villages directly into the formal consumer economy > this density alters the macroeconomic reality of the Republic > supply-chain friction? dying. > post-harvest agricultural wastage? plummeting, because farmers can finally reach cold storage and markets > Tier-3 and Tier-4 domestic consumption? unlocked and fully connected > military mobility on contested Himalayan frontiers? secured for rapid deployment you cannot become a superpower on mud roads the Asian Century requires physical infrastructure to match its demographic ambition the concrete is poured. the acceleration is here.

India has overtaken the US in having the longest road network in the world as per Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). India is now having 6.7 million kms of roads, followed by the US at 6.6 million kms, and China 5.5 million kms. India also has the highest road density in the world. India will continue to lead as India is now adding around 7,000-10,000 kms of highways a year. And will quickly catch up to China in paved roads, where China leads India by 0.5 million kms (India, US come second & third). 10,000 kms of road addition is like laying a road from Tokyo to London every year. This is no joke because if you think post 2020 India's infra boom was spectacular, India has only doubled its investment in infra now compared to 5 years ago.
