Great to meet with @WIN_Consortium Vice Chair, Dr. @LiaTsimberidou at MD Anderson where WIN started 16 years ago to discuss her vision for impact in the field of precision oncology through innovative and collaborative prospective clinical trials like IMPACT2 that she has led for over 10 years. I had an opportunity to visit several of her group’s posters including: Clinical outcomes of patients with cell cycle alterations by treatment type: The MD Anderson Cancer Center IMPACT 2 study. Clinical outcomes of patients with PI3K pathway alterations by treatment type: The MD Anderson Cancer Center IMPACT 2 study. Clinical outcomes of patients with RTK-RAS pathway alterations by treatment type: The MD Anderson Cancer Center IMPACT 2 study. Clinical outcomes of patients with TP53 pathway alterations by treatment type: The MD Anderson Cancer Center IMPACT 2 study. The experience with 829 patients prospectively enrolled in IMPACT2 (NCT02152254)) between May 2014 and September 2023 revealed associations between the number of co-altered pathways across tumor types and overall survival along with the observation that targeted monotherapy interventions have limited impact on improving survival. It is clear from the work of Dr. Tsimberidou and others in the field including WIN Consortium’s Chief Medical Officer @Dr_R_Kurzrock (WINTHER and iPREDICT studies) that the future of the field of precision oncology involves tailored personalized therapy combinations to address multiple co-existing targets. Maximizing matching score when possible helps patients live longer. Future global clinical trials that WIN envisions involve collaboration to refine the outcomes for patients with similar co-alterations (large sample size) to demonstrate the impact of the needed combos of targeted agents. One thing that resonated in today’s opening session was the need to implement advances around the globe including in resource constrained environments. Our colleagues who are developing new technologies, AI applications and drugs can contribute greatly to this need. And it was great to chat with Dr. Adam Dicker who stopped by during the poster viewing.
