Hopkins will provide $280M in mid-size and large grants to support faculty for 2 years (1) $160M for all life scientists (from basic to translation) (2) $120M for all science and engineering. This cannot replace federal funding, not even close, but it helps.

Incredibly exciting announcement. Johns Hopkins University will provide $80M per year for the next two years to support large Life Sciences projects. (1) Transformational Science Teams awards: >$10M each, $40M/year. (2) High-impact individual awards: $200-500K each, $40M/year.

It was an honor Senator Ron Johnson @SenRonJohnson to testify in the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations under you chairmanship with colleagues on both sides of the aisle a week ago. Truth matters as does public trust and there’s much at stake. Scientists in the US should be valued, respected, supported, allowed to think creatively, ask questions, discuss ideas, do research and publish findings. It’s no longer science when censorship, reputational smearing or career destruction occur for pursuing scientific truth. Thank you Senator Johnson for your tireless efforts.

What a lovely surprise to be in San Francisco and get on a 14 hour flight to Hong Kong and find that the person sitting next to me is none other than my colleague and friend Professor Jenny Grandis @JenniferGrandis Amazingly we are going for different academic and other adventures. @AmericanCancer @AACR @WIN_Consortium Dr. Grandis who is one of the finest physician-scientists, mentor and role model to many as a surgeon-scientist will also be joining us in Rhode Island at the next WIN Symposium on October 2-3, 2026.
