When it comes to the third generation Duster, Renault South Africa stylists have certainly knocked it out of the park.
Like all its predecessors, the new model still offers a rugged exterior design, but here things seem to have been dialled up a notch with the eye-catching person of the vehicle.
For starters, the rear is cleaner with duster lettering and the revised yet minimalistic Renault logo. A pair of 3D Y-shaped lights are positioned at either end. The tailgate opens up to reveal a cavernous - and expandable - boot carrying capacity of 472L/1 696L with a 60/40 split rear seat configuration.
The side profile offers roof rails, flared wheel arches with cladding, 18-inch two-tone rims wrapped in 215/60 R18 Continentals, and a C-pillar-positioned door handle for the rear doors.
But zoom in closer and you may note that the cladding on the front fenders not only has Duster lettering but uses a special material called Starkle utilising recycled material. Not only does it protect the vehicle from obtaining scratches from loose debris, but scratches on it will never show. Quite cool.
However, the front design takes the cake with its bold approach. The Y-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRL’s) and Renault lettering on the grille are the most prominent changes here and transform the look of the newcomer quite significantly.
To maintain the ‘go-anywhere-adventure-spirit’ it benefits from all-round cladding, underbody protection, generous approach and departure angles (even more so the 4WD model).
The featured unit is finished in a Glacier White paint job which is 1 of 7 and the French manufacturer says though this is a new vehicle it is no more than a few millimetres longer than the model before.
That said, it’s build on the CMF-B platform (Common Module Family) - shared between Renault/Nissan/Mitsubishi - which is reported to be ready to accommodate electric mobility. To prove this, Renault also offers a mild-hybrid derivative on this new Duster.
