🌿 A Very Interesting Site Meeting on the Kent Downs yesterday! 🌿From @therealdavidwi1
I spent the day with the fantastic team from the Kent Downs National Landscape — an independent organisation, part-funded and supported by Kent County Council — seeing first-hand the incredible work they do protecting and enhancing one of our county’s greatest assets.
Along with Dean Burns
Here’s the most interesting part…
Despite what some might claim, rescinding the so-called “climate emergency” will make absolutely no difference to their delivery. In fact, it means KCC can help them more effectively by cutting through layers of red tape and focusing on practical environmental outcomes rather than political posturing.
Such a shame that our own FHDC continues to pursue this unachievable “net zero” crusade, burning through your council tax in the process.
I’d love to know just how much the Green–Liberal alliance has already spent chasing something that simply cannot be achieved in the real world.
Real progress comes from action on the ground, not slogans in a motion.

Some highlights from the weekend bug hunting in the Kent downs with @kelly_jowett, @Rothamsted_RIS and @kentdowns6.
Great green bush crickets, wasp spiders, Cerceris quadricincta and Ectophasia crassipennis! All in a day's work!

Yesterday, we had an amazing trek along the scenic North Downs Way, crossing Kent's stunning 'THE DEVIL'S KNEADING TROUGH'. 🌳✨ This walk through the Kent Downs National Landscapes was absolutely breathtaking. #HikingAdventures#KentDowns#NorthDownsWay#NatureLovers
Rural Task Force Pcso Cork and SC Parker were out patrolling the bridleways around Holly Hill as there have been reports of off-road vehicles causing a nuisance .JC

#DidYouKnow 70% of woodland in the #KentDowns is ancient (having been around since before 1600) and irreplaceable?
Our woodlands are home to a huge ecosystem of wildlife, plants, insects, lichen, fungi & more! 🍄🦉🦋🌿

✨ Last night #WinterSolstice occurred at 3:27am in the UK, making this the shortest day of the year! This is because the North Pole is tilted farthest away from the sun, resulting in the sun appearing at its lowest point in the sky at noon.
