This is the revisionism that's going to occur, downplaying the rhetoric from the leadup to the war and the initial actions which made the intentions obvious, just as people are going to downplay the stated, maximalist objectives which they supported at the time.
Trump was never committed to regime change, @ewong. He called on the Iranian people to take down the regime, but throughout the war he made clear that his objective was degrading Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities.
I’ve criticized him for years for not making maximum support for the Iranian people a central objective of his Iran policy. That has always been the missing piece for all administrations.
