Brazil’s, Jair Bolsonaro (a former far-right President from 2019-2022), who kept Brazil’s citizens in fear of the government becoming a dictatorship, and who threatened their democracy, said this in 2018 on the campaign trail - “These red criminals will be banished from our homeland, it will be a cleansing never seen in Brazilian history”. The far-right wannabe dictator, disgraced, and former occupant of the White House, Donald Trump, recently made these comments on this years campaign trail - “They are poisoning the blood of our country”. “WE will carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history”. That’s not at all a coincidence, America. These two ‘far-right’ leaders both ended up losing their last election. They both administered and fomented an uprising and insurrection after their loss. They both were a clear threat to democracy, and they still are. The only difference, are the consequences handed out for their actions. Jair Bolsonaro was banned from running for office until the year 2030. Donald Trump has committed additional crimes since his ‘led insurrection’, and has been found liable for sexual abuse, and guilty of fraud, since then as well. Yet, he is ‘free’, without any consequences for his actions and crimes. What’s more, he is on the campaign trail again running for POTUS in 2024, like none of what has been mentioned, ever happened. It’s essential that WE carry out and do what the government and judicial system won’t do. Hold Trump Accountable. Protect Democracy. When you mention popular voting system, and eliminating the Electoral College, you are met with statements such as ‘majority rule is unfair’. Every vote actually counting, is as fair as it gets. The majority is formed, widened, and enhanced by a leader and how effective, inspiring, and trustworthy that leader may be. How good they are able to sell what they are trying to accomplish for the people is key. The majority is not formed or defined by the city or state that the people/voters are in. Ronald Reagan did it in 1980 and 1984. He did it with dog whistles, racism, saying that he would change the economy for the better, war on drugs, downplaying the aids epidemic, dehumanizing the LGBTQ community, promising law and order, cutting government programs, and enriching corporations. I’m not saying that I agree with his policies or ideas, because I don’t. I’m not saying that I think what he did ended up being good for America, because I don’t. The point is, he did it. The point is that, he won on these issues, and at the time, those are what the ‘majority’ of Americans largely agreed on. He made it believable, captured the imagination of American citizens, and that earned him the popular vote in two landslide election victories. Of course things change, society evolves, as it should. Leaders should change and evolve with society, with little resistance against it. If leaders are able to change and evolve with society, they can better understand the current needs of the people. As that happens, majorities are able to shift over time. Now if you’re a modern day Republican leader, and you refuse to change, adapt, accept, or even try to understand what the needs and wants are of the current majority, of course you would be against having a popular voting system in place, but you’re also choosing to stay in the minority. It will make Republicans and Democrats alike, ‘step their game up’, if you will, and stop playing tit-for-tat politics against each other, and start actively and collectively working for the people. The prize to be won is the people’s vote, not lobbyists and corporations. If you’re only going to appeal, speak, and play to the minority, why should you have the opportunity to rule over the majority? #EliminateElectoralCollege #LetsMoveForward #OneAmerica

His opinion on what the government should do after he failed at it, added with his taste for revenge politics, should make all of his current and future statements that much less credible. He’s running on the same false hopes, promises, fears, and lie of putting ‘America First’. Yet, when he has the opportunity to do so, or when America is moving forward without him, he gets in the way of any progress.
