Made that Africa run 5 or 6 times as a loadmaster. Got out of the Air Force in 1990 before Somalia went to shit. Then revisited, flying over in a P-3 Orion looking for bad guys in 2006 as an imagery analyst in the USNR.

IAF An-12 (Russian made Antonov-12) destroyed while landing go wrong at Assam, aircraft engulfed fire, resulting death of crew on board (its said that one of the copilot survived). An-12 is a reliable C-130 equivalent from Russia (and based on 70 year old design). Initially, world was known with few pics after destruction, and a report that aircraft got fire at landing while carrying ammo. Now this video (if true) possibly recorded by PTZ at airport / ATC, shed more light. It seems that there is NO fault of pilot as people are commonly blaming him. Its either one or more left tyres / landing gear went wrong (not seems likely from video) OR Left side engine was failed, forcing aircraft tilting to left and going out of pilot control. Though, propellers at last seconds were seen behaving strangely but same still looks unlikely. The most likely possibility (higher chances) is mishandling of cargo by load masters; ie failed to safely secure the ammo and explosives in aircraft. Say (few very heavy crates / boxes) were loosely kept / tightened inside the cargo aircraft. Remember, this is a cargo / transport aircraft carrying explosives and ammunition for the local forces. It was carrying probably one or two pilots / navigator, one engineer and two or three load master / cargo handling staff. It can be seen that landing was not smooth (unlike commercial aircraft), An-12 bumped minimum two times (common for loaded cargo aircraft) after that pilot applied the brakes. So the rough landing might loosen some crates and, as soon as Brakes were applied, the crates went loose (latches broke) and heavy crates become free to roam. Any such heavier crate moving with speed of hundred km/hr first went forward, hitting cockpit wall with bang (when brakes were applied) and then turned left which heavily disturbed the An-12 balance and simply shifted thhe COG of aircraft to left, going in grass. As cartons were carrying explosives, as soon as aircraft broke down, the explosives did the rest. The situation of aircraft post stop also confirms that all of the aircraft load was shifted to forward / cockpit area and aircraft rear area simply went into air hung like see-saw. A common scene visible on road when donkey cart carrying heavier load shifted to rear side and poor donkey went into air (here we witness the opposite). Sad and unluckily people are putting onus on pilot / maintenance staff but in my opinion its a possible fault of Load master. Loadmaster is the person responsible to place and secure the cargo inside aircraft. Cargo handling is not everyone's job.

I pissed off a loadmaster or two in my time but never had much contact with the pilots. They were just the drivers of the bus that dropped us off and picked us up. Always flew in the short buses.

Loadmaster is the person responsible to place and secure the cargo inside aircraft. The famous Kamran Bashir Masih of PAF was / is a loadmaster who was credited by social media for shooting down Rafale in May 2025. Cargo handling is not everyone's job.
