The SADC Secretariat, through its Disaster Risk Reduction Unit (DRRU), continues to strengthen regional resilience and disaster preparedness through the rollout of the SADC Subnational INFORM Risk Index model across Member States.
Implemented with technical support from partners including the German Government through GIZ, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and MapAction, the initiative is aimed at enhancing evidence-based decision-making, strengthening early warning systems, improving risk mapping, and advancing climate resilience planning across the SADC region.
As part of the continued operationalisation of the initiative, SADC and its partners will convene the SADC INFORM Rollout Workshop 4 in Lusaka, Zambia, from 2–4 June 2026. The workshop will bring together representatives from SADC Member States, humanitarian agencies, development partners, and technical experts to strengthen technical capacity, review progress made during previous workshops, and promote regional coordination and knowledge sharing in disaster risk reduction.
The initiative forms part of broader regional efforts to build resilience against climate-related and natural hazards affecting the SADC region, including floods, droughts, cyclones, and earthquakes.
