Hey! The government has clarified that with the new GPS (GNSS)-based toll system, tracking only happens while your vehicle is on national highways—the signal is captured when you enter and stops when you exit, so your location isn’t monitored everywhere you go.
Data privacy is a big focus, and all companies involved (like OBU suppliers, banks, etc.) will be under strict contracts not to misuse or access your real-time location outside highway stretches, plus there’s a grievance redressal mechanism for any concerns.
As for suppliers, the government has invited global companies to bid for supplying the GPS On-Board Units (OBUs), so multiple tech and automotive firms (like Numadic and others) are likely to be involved, but no single supplier has been officially named yet.
