On my way to @TriangleSCI to make @reviews_journal a reality, with an awesome team of #scholcommies.
Feels kinda weird to be on my first Work Trip since #OpenEd19, just under 3 years.
The idea goes back to the inspiration from #opened19 by Dr.Noah Levin (Golden West College) who I don't find on Twitter. Thank you! And also thanks to @opencontent and @txtbks! 5/6
I was fortunate to have the chance to discuss Tree of Life on the one year anniversary during a talk at #OpenEd19. Attendee and friend @sgreenla reminded me this year that their memories be for a blessing: washingtonpost.com/magazine/…
Sometimes I wish I shared videos of my toddler on social media because I have a clip of her saying "Mommy does open education" (I was wearing my OpenEd19 shirt) and it's just really goddamn cute.
Among my fave posts which received many views this year is this one:
Openness in Whose Interest? #OERizona#OpenEd19 - go.shr.lc/36iiEuj
Thanks to all who organized this hybrid event which allowed these fireworks to go off in my brain from the conversations there
Or the #OpenEd19 conversations which framed "sustainability" as something new or overlooked, while apparently ignoring the CARE framework (because it isn't obsessed with Business Models? Because it implies an obligation to contribute to the community not just profit from it?).
And why it is so consistently disappointing (if not surprising) to me when some OER advocates prioritize corporate-friendly "business" language & practices.
(E.g., #OpenEd19's #ThatPanel or the session claiming BY-NC is wrong for OER because it limits commercial exploitation.)
The call for Proposals for the 2019 OER Conference closes at midnight on Sunday. If you haven't submitted yours yet, you can do so here: go.alt.ac.uk/2WatuOB#altc#OER20
If you came to my #opened19 presentation, you'll know I ended it with a call to make these positions sustainable. Supporting professional development opportunities for early-career and mid-career librarians who are doing open ed work is one of the ways to do that.
I really, really hope this is incorrect. Otherwise, the new version of @openedconf is on a path to inherit all of the problems of #OpenEd19 and before.
Transparency, not secrecy, please.
Thank you @capt_info for the lone session on #OpenRecognition at #OpenEd19! That these communities are not more connected baffles me. It is time for the #OpenEd community to think broader than licensing/resources within the traditional college system. #OERmedium.com/@kylelclements/op…
