Thanks for the connection - originating from Kiwi land, he must be good 😎. Very interested in the sustainable tech conversation.

Of interest - we are in the early phases of trying to replicate the OpenETC cooperative model to make this ecosystem available to more institutions - especially those in the developing world.

Greetings Derek and thanks for popping in to say hi. That is a great resource which highlights many of the mistakes and learning opportunities we have experienced since founding the OERF in 2009. Definitely worth reading again. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah - that brings back memories. Finding solutions for external modems so you could connect to the dial-up connection because the soft-modems didn't work with Linux. Today, its plug and play for most options with only a few rough edges. (I'm not a geek - just a teacher).

We want to foster the best of both worlds. Supporting communities with the ability for institutions to utilise shared infrastructure of apps they would not ordinarily host themselves plus easy pathways for orgs to adopt branded instances within the context of a community garden.

I nabbed a couple stickers and a pin! Maybe I just missed 'em. Sadly I lost some great @openetc and @EFF stickers when I gave up my UBC laptop.

How did I not offer Ian a badge when I saw him in 2019? I have a lot to atone for.

Ian took the (rare, but welcome) step of getting formal approval from his institution. Any public post-secondary educator is welcome in the @OpenETC, we hope people will give back somehow (in terms of help, resources, etc…). “Contributions not contracts”: opened.ca

Not taking long for Ian to make his mark with the @OpenETC as BCIT’s institutional lead. We’re excited to work more with this fab person and brilliant learning technologist.
It's official! BCIT is now a member of the @openetc, joining 14 other BC post-secondary institutions. Today, the Educational Technology and Learning Design Committee (part of Education Council) voted to endorse use of OpenETC for open education purposes. Let's go exploring! 🙂
