Ya well I think the point is moot as they have their basic needs met. But I also think the pyramid is a useful hueristic but an oversimplification as well as an over "humans are animals" representation. It seems true on average, but there are far too many examples of men and women giving up the lowest tier for family, meaning, religion, country, risk, honor, wealth, etc, etc. I think the majority would give up if their basic needs weren't being met, but never underestimate some of the hardliners believe this so deeply they'd continue because meaning and community can rise above basic needs first.
