Was gutted I couldn't go for the Reef Heron today but this evening more than made up for it. Found a Turtle Dove at Whittle Dene. A self-found patch tick and county tick to boot. 12 years since my last UK TD! #Patchgold 👍📷

It's been a slow plod nr St Albans but it's 100 up in the #PWC2026 Challenge, with a distant Hobby today. An obliging Little Ringed Plover, a second ever patch Firecrest this week & the only sighting of a #patchgold, formerly common, Collared Dove in April the highlights!

King George Park before fog rolled in was quiet for grounded migrants. But a Hobby(!) in-off skimming the clifftop was my first for the patch! As were two #patchgold Mallards on the sea. Otherwise 18 Swallows and 2 Sand Martins in-off #PWC2026 ebird.org/checklist/S3322913…

Stanford Reservoir - unexpected #patchgold with this smart drake Ring-necked Duck. Patch tick and only the 2nd record for the site, the first in 1978. Whimbrel yesterday keeps the #PWC2026 total ticking along nicely. @rg_stanford @LandRbirds

Stanford Reservoir - 3 Bar-tailed Godwits were a bit of #patchgold on Wednesday 22nd April, my first since a group of 6 flew through in 2020. A lovely looking wader in my opinion and great to have on the patch, albeit briefly. @LandRbirds @rg_stanford

Yeah, Glaucous Gulls are great but the real #patchgold today at Girdle Ness was this Coot on the St Fittick's wetlands. Only my second ever record here and perhaps only the fourth or fifth ever daytime record.

It's been a slow but steady few months on the patch near St Albans. At the weekend, a Wigeon was new for the year. But today, I found a #patchgold Dartford Warbler. A patch tick (29 years!) and Herts rarity. Fortunately my photographer @RupertEvershed was on hand today. #PWC2025

I fully expected the 4th ever record of Coal tit to be the highlight of the day, however, a patch mega in a flyover Crossbill had other ideas! 200 Pinkies went through, and my first Stonechat of the autumn made it a lovely couple of hours. #patchgold ebird.org/checklist/S2788715…
