A wonderful close encounter with the barn owl on tonights #patchbirding as it took a short rest from hunting .
It was so close , I held my breath and froze !
A few flyovers are usually the sum of the annual @PatchBirding Hobby records, here in Herts. It was a change to spot one from garden today, perched in an oak - much to the annoyance of the local Swallows!

A superb singing male Spotted Flycatcher at the Hothfield Waterfall Lake this evening whilst out #patchbirding. #PWC2026 Year tick ✅ #91. The juveniles here last year might very well have been locally bred after all. Also the GC Grebe & Reed Warbler are still at the reservoir.
Decent evening @PatchBirding visit to Trent Port yesterday with a surprise Spoonbill feeding in riverside mud. First for my patch! 😀
#PWC2026 score now 109/121.
Also, Barn Owl, Cuckoo and both Red-legged and Grey Partridges

Back #patchbirding and plenty of breeding action including pair of Pied Flies feeding chicks, 1 Spot Fly on territory, Nuthatch, GSW fledglings etc. Plus two plastic fantastic Black Swans! #10kmpatch#birding#ukbirding#birds
Dawn #patchbirding before all of the road closures for the local half marathon. 14 Greylag, 2 Cattle Egret, Marsh Harrier, RN Parakeet, 2 Cetti’s, 7 Yellow Wagtail….probably should have just caught up on some sleep 🤦♂️
After a cracking afternoon #patchbirding today was back to it being total pants. Roughly twelfty billion Canada Geese….and that was about it, other than the fire brigade having to attend to fires on the shore 😞 Welcome to summer #birding🤦♂️
