🧵The PANDEM Project 🧵
The PANDEM project was an 18-month, €1.4m project coordinated by University of Galway (Ireland) & funded under the Horizon 2020 Secure societies – Protecting freedom & security of Europe & its citizens call.
It was created in the context of the European Union (EU) facing a growing health security threat due to the convergence of risk factors driving disease emergence, amplification, & dissemination of pathogens w/ pandemic potential.
The PANDEM project aimed at the reduction of threats to the health, socio-economic & security to society posed by future pandemics so that in the future we will be better prepared at the regional, national, EU & global level. It assessed pandemic preparedness & response tools, systems, & practice in priority areas including risk assessment & surveillance, communication & public information, governance, & legal frameworks.

PANDEM-2
PANDEM-2 is a H2020 EU-funded project that aims to develop new solutions for efficient, EU-wide pandemic management.
The goal of PANDEM-2 is to prepare Europe for future pandemics through innovations in training and to build capacity between EU member states responding to pandemics on a cross-border basis.
Led by NUI Galway, the PANDEM-2 consortium consists of 19 partner organisations w/ expertise in technology, research, public health & pandemic management from across the EU. Our Advisory Board membership includes leading international health agencies the World Health Organisation (WHO), American Red Cross & European Centre for Disease Prevention & Control (ECDC).
PANDEM-2 builds upon key insights & lessons learned in previous EU-funded projects including the original PANDEM, beAWARE, CARISMAND, DARWIN, SAYSO & IN-PREP.
PANDEM-2 will also be working in the same research space as other ongoing projects like STAMINA, MOOD, VEO, PATHOCERT & COSMIC & will keep up to date w/ their research activities to ensure that the EU’s response to pandemics is strengthened.

THE PREPARE CLUSTER
PREparedness & resPonse for emergency situAtions in euRopE
The European Commission has recently funded many projects to work on different aspects of crisis management, many w/ a focus on managing pandemics. While each project has distinct aims & challenges, they all work towards a common goal.
It is for this reason that ten EU funded H2020 projects, w/ a combined funding of €72 million, have united to form the PREparedness & resPonse for emergency situAtions in euRopE (PREPARE) cluster.
Together CO- VERSATILE, COVID-X, COVINFORM, EUR3KA, LINKS, NO FEAR, PANDEM-2, PERISCOPE, PHIRI, RiskPACC STAMINA & STRATEGY will explore synergies, research opportunities & deliver joint activities to maximise impact.

PANDEM2-SIM
Pandem2-Sim is a tool that models the key mechanisms whereby a novel pathogen infects a susceptible population & supports the generation of plausible disease trajectories (e.g., incidence, hospitalisation, & mortality). Estimating these indicators permits the quantification of the demand imposed on the hospital system & the number of resources required to control the pandemic.

Pandem-2 Dashboard
This platform seamlessly integrates pandemic-related data from various sources, including international & national systems, participative surveillance platforms, laboratory systems, social media, & pandemic modelling.
It offers a practical solution for enhancing pandemic readiness, complementing existing information systems, & encourages collaboration among stakeholders & across regions.
